Lithium Battery Recycling Line

Crushing, drying and separation of waste Li-ion and LiFePO₄ batteries — capacity 1 000 kg/h

Product description

Complete line for processing waste lithium batteries with a capacity of 1 000 kg per hour. It handles LiFePO₄ and ternary NMC cells — cylindrical, prismatic and pouch.

Output products

• Black mass 60–70 % — a mixture of cathode and anode material (Li, Ni, Co, Mn, graphite) for hydrometallurgical processing and cathode precursor production.
• Copper 10–15 % — separated copper foil from anodes, sold to steelworks.
• Aluminium 10–15 % — separated aluminium foil from cathodes and casings.
• Casings and foils 5–10 % — metal cell housing and separator foil.

Separation efficiency exceeds 98 % for all output fractions. Proportions are given as a share of input material weight; actual values depend on the type and chemistry of the cells processed.

Process

• Feeding and coarse crushing — B600 mm conveyor, twin-shaft shredder 2× 37 kW, 10–12 rpm.
• Fine crushing — hammer crusher 55 kW, chamber φ400 × 800 mm, 2 100 rpm.
• Drying and degassing — rotary drum at 120–150 °C, electrolyte evaporation of 99 % or more.
• Air and magnetic separation — extraction of foils and separator, removal of ferrous parts.
• Milling and screening — turbine mill 45 kW, drum and vibrating screens 24/40/120 mesh.
• Output packing — pneumatic conveying, big-bag filler with weighing and dust extraction.

Safety and air protection

Low-temperature drying at 120–150 °C evaporates more than 99 % of the electrolyte — this reduces explosion risk, increases black mass yield and protects downstream equipment from wear.

Thermal flue gas treatment includes oxidation of VOCs and solvent vapours, rapid cooling through the 200–500 °C range to prevent dioxin re-formation, a gas scrubber and activated carbon adsorption. Dust concentration at the outlet is 5 mg/m³ or less, in line with the battery industry standard.

Technical specification

• Capacity — 1 000 kg/h of input material.
• Input material — LiFePO₄ and ternary lithium cells, surface moisture up to 15 %.
• Footprint — 45 × 17 × 7.5 m.
• Installed power — approximately 460 kW.
• Power supply — 380 V / 50 Hz.
• Operators — 2 per shift.
• Residual moisture — 1 % or less.
• Dust emissions — 5 mg/m³ or less.
• Black mass yield — over 70 % on the first screen.
• Metal separation — over 98 % for copper, aluminium and casings.
• Control system — Siemens PLC with Schneider Electric components.
• Transport — 9× 40″ HQ container.

Siemens Innomotics motors, KONE gearboxes and BUT bearings. All parts in contact with aggressive environments are made of stainless steel. The line is modular — the layout is adapted to the hall dimensions and the required capacity.
